New Mexico doctor errors in prescribing allegedly cause deaths

The over-prescribing of opiates in the past decade has led to what many call a dangerous medical epidemic in the United States. It is always tragic when accidental deaths occur due to patients taking too much of a prescribed drug or due to an accidental drug interaction. However, it is especially difficult to comprehend deadly doctor errors that are made out of greed, where physicians try to keep patients coming back and spending money through addiction to dangerous drugs.

Details undisclosed in Joan Rivers' medical malpractice case

In the last decade, many hospitals, physician groups and other medical entities in New Mexico and across the country have built outpatient surgery centers that are equipped to handle routine procedures. These facilities allow hospital operating rooms to be used for complex surgeries and the care of trauma patients that require advanced equipment and specialized medical professionals. However, a recent high-profile medical malpractice lawsuit highlights how the lack of oversight and regulations in these outpatient facilities can tragically result in patient deaths.

Medical malpractice: now among top 3 leading causes of death

For years, the leading causes of death in the United States have been heart disease, cancer, respiratory illnesses and accidents. Until very recently, the metrics did not include those who perished due to easily preventable causes, such as medical mistakes. Physicians in New Mexico and around the country are now paying more attention to the findings that indicate medical malpractice is the third most prevalent cause of death in this country.

Doctor errors can cause major issues for discharged patients

After having surgery or being hospitalized for another major health reason, a patient may view leaving the hospital as the first step toward a full recovery. However, a recent article details how dangerous this time can be, especially if doctor errors or mistakes caused by others caring for a patient result in medication mix-ups. Issues with medication can cause severe injuries and even death to many patients in New Mexico.
