Laura R. Callanan

Albuquerque, NM

Laura Callanan began working at Curtis & Co. the summer after completing her Juris Doctorate at the University of New Mexico School of Law.

In 2014, Ms. Callanan entered law school at the University of New Mexico School of Law after a successful fifteen-year career as a tenured Professor of English. Although she loved working with her students, she found that she wanted a more direct way to help those individuals injured and seeking justice. During law school Ms. Callanan worked for a variety of legal and non-profit organizations, served on the nationally recognized Natural Resources Journal, and graduated magna cum laude. She also had the honor of being part of Professor Jim Ellis's draft team preparing a United State Supreme Court Amicus Brief in support of an individual on death row with severe intellectual disability. The team was thrilled when Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg delivered the opinion in Defendant's favor, referencing its brief several times. Moore v. Texas, 137 S.Ct. 1039 (2017).

The firm has tested Ms. Callanan's skill already in the necessarily fast-paced environment of our busy trial practice. Her sharp intellect, passion for helping people and long career as a college professor have already proven her to be a tremendous asset. Our clients are lucky she chose to work with us. We could not be happier to have her on our team.
