ABOUT

Katy Duhigg is a native New Mexican who attended Valley High School and the University of New Mexico School of Law. She has been a practicing attorney since 2008, representing Davids against Goliaths and helping New Mexico families deal with life-changing events.

Katy knows that when a traumatic event has occurred, it can be hard to know what you need to make things right. In one of her largest cases, a family came seeking help with payment on an insurance policy after their father died unexpectedly. While the family was focused on the insurance, Katy realized that Wells Fargo, who held the mortgage on their home, was using the father’s death as an opportunity to wrongfully foreclose on the grieving family. In one of the first cases addressing Wells Fargo’s predatory practices, Katy held the bank accountable and uncovered shocking conduct that was later addressed in nationwide class action suits against the bank.

Katy was born and raised in Albuquerque, and is one of ten children. Her brother, Charles Duhigg, is a Pulitzer Prize winning author. Katy earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon, and then spent two years working for non-profits on the East Coast before returning to New Mexico to attend the University of New Mexico School of Law. Katy is committed to public service, and in August 2018 Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller appointed her as Albuquerque City Clerk. After revamping the City’s Election Code and the City’s Code of Ethics, Katy stepped down to run for State Senate. She was first elected to the New Mexico Senate in 2020 and re-elected in 2024. She serves as Chair of the Senate Rules Committee and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Katy is a member of the Board of Directors of Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, and the former vice president of Common Cause New Mexico. She was also a member of the Bernalillo County Code of Conduct Review Board and the Bernalillo County Valuation Protest Board. Katy has also served as a governance council member and executive board secretary with the RFK Charter School.
